Johnny McCarney St Malachy’s College, Belfast, awarded a bursary to study for a Drama Degree at Magee College, University of Ulster.
Canice Ward Dean Maguire College, Carrickmore, awarded a bursary to cover expenses for auditions and performances across Northern Ireland
Jason Nugent Kilkeel High School, awarded a bursary to attend a National Youth Theatre Course in London.
Aaron Hickland St Patrick’s Grammar School, Downpatrick, awarded a bursary towards living costs while taking part in a National Youth Theatre Production in London
Rhys Dunlop St Malachy’s College, Belfast awarded a bursary towards expenses for study at the Lir Academy, Trinity College, Dublin.
Lauren Gallagher Holy Cross College, Strabane, awarded a bursary towards expenses for a BA Hons Degree in Drama and Performance Studies at London South Bank University.
Sharon Duffy School of Speech and Drama, awarded a bursary towards fees for Mountainview Academy of Theatre Arts, London.
Adam Thompson St Columbanus College, Bangor awarded a bursary to attend a course in Musical Theatre for youth.
Jose Varandas Holy Trinity College, Cookstown, awarded a bursary to study for a Diploma of Foundation Art and Design at the North West College, Magherafelt.
Susan Hunter Friends School, Lisburn, awarded a bursary towards course fees for a BA Hons Fine Art Course at the University of Ulster.
Kassia Wichowskra St Patrick’s Academy, Lisburn, awarded a bursary to complete a Foundation Degree in i Media at The Belfast Metropolitan College.
Anna Brogan St Malachy’s High School, Castlewellan, awarded a bursary towards course fees for a BA Hons Photography Degree at the University of Ulster.
Helen Monaghan received a bursary in 2010 to fund her first year membership of the Ulster Youth Training Choir. She has a passion for singing and this year along with studying for her A levels she has secured a place in The Ulster Youth Choir as well as becoming a member of the Belfast Philharmonic Choir. She sang “Imagine” by John Lennon.

“Belfast Flags of Hope” a publication about the Belfast Flags of Hope Project was also launched on the same day. This book describes the project itself and includes a photograph of the flags created by the boys involved in the project together with their reasons for their designs. Gerry Kelly representing OFMDFM presents two students with a framed flag from each other`s school Flags are often a focus for division in Northern Ireland, but north Belfast students hope to change this forever.
Year 9 students at St Patrick’s College on the Antrim Road have joined with peers from Ashfield Boys High School to produce a display of flags which they created and which demonstrate that their hopes and aspirations are the same irrespective of background.
Special flags have been produced by the students in each school, helped by artist Raymond Watson, which have been swapped and put on public display in the school grounds.
A special ceremony to unveil the Flags of Hope took place at St Patrick’s College on the Antrim Road on Thursday, June 25 at which Gerry Kelly representing OFMDFM and the Lord Mayor of Belfast, Cllr Naomi Long MLA, officiated. Continue reading "" Saturday, October 4. 2008Bursaries awarded 2008Mary Black of CFNI and Penny Holloway with the winners of the Thomas Devlin Bursaries 2008 in the Europa Hotel. Winners were presented with their awards at a fundraising Gala Dinner attended by over 250 guests in the Grand Ballroom of the Europa Hotel. Gerard McCarthy,a young Belfast born actor presented the awards to the young performing artists and in his speech Gerard commented that this type of support was very important to young aspiring performers. Dan Gordon was an excellent MC and Sean Crummy provided the guests with his political overview based on the Folks on the Hill. Auction items included a Trevor Brown painting, a Tulip Bouquet Annual Basket donated by Belleek Pottery, and tickets for the Cliff Richard concert!
